Red Bank Charter School Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society

The National Junior Honor Society is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding middle grade level students. More than just an honor roll, NJHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship and character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1929.

Today, it is estimated that more than one million students participate in official Honor Society activities. NHS and NJHS chapters are found in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, many U.S. territories, and Canada. Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service.

RED BANK CHARTER SCHOOL SELECTION OF CANDIDATES

The Red Bank Charter School Chapter of the NJHS was established in 2004.

To be eligible for membership in the Red Bank Charter School Chapter of the NJHS, the candidate must have completed one semester of sixth grade, seventh grade, or eighth grade.  Candidates must have been in attendance at the school the equivalent of one semester. Students transferring to Red Bank Charter School from another established NJHS chapter are eligible to be accepted as members into the RBCS chapter.

The minimum standard for scholarship shall be a cumulative grade point average of 93% or above.

Candidates shall also be evaluated on the basis of service, leadership, character, and citizenship by a council comprised of members of the Red Bank Charter School faculty.  The review aligns with the NJHS selection process criteria.

Prior to notifying students of their status, the chapter adviser shall provide the principal with the results of the faculty council’s review.
